EU AI law: new standard or already outdated tomorrow?

26.06.2024

The European Union has adopted the world’s first AI law with the aim of creating uniform regulations for the use of AI. It stands for the protection of fundamental rights and social values and is intended to ensure the promotion of innovation.

The rules apply to all those who develop, offer or use AI systems within the EU and apply, for example, to their use in video surveillance, speech recognition or the analysis of financial data. The decisive factor here is that AI systems must be monitored by humans, not just by other technologies.

The EU is setting standards. However, questions remain unanswered as AI continues to develop and regulations age. Critical voices fear a slow pace of innovation and burdens for small companies due to extensive regulations and potential risks. In contrast, the law offers positive incentives by creating trust in AI, promoting AI-based innovations and leveling the playing field in the EU.

It is up to companies to continuously review the AI and compliance requirements they use and react flexibly to changes. It is to be hoped that the standards set will strengthen Europe as a technological location in the long term and that companies such as Photocad will be able to use the advantages of AI profitably for the benefit of all in the future.
