German Future Prize 2024

Smart light, democratized AI and revolutionary energy-saving chips: the nominations for the German Future Prize 2024 have been announced. Which pioneering development is likely to win the race this year and has the potential to be commercially successful?

Perhaps the “digital light” project : LED technology is used here for a new type of floodlight in which each of the 25,000 LEDs can be controlled digitally. This means that it not only serves as a glare-free light source, but also as a projector of warning symbols, for example in the event of a sudden change in the weather or in dangerous situations.

Another project focuses on the “democratization of generative AI” with a specially developed AI model that requires very little computing power and can be used on a smartphone. The result is a platform that enables visual AI searches in the industrial sector and can be used to identify defective components in technical systems more quickly, for example.

Last but not least: power for the energy transition! After several years of work, the project team succeeded in developing “energy-saving chips” that reduce switching losses by 90 %. This means that not only could an electric locomotive save the energy requirements of 100 single-family homes every year, but the electrification of shipping and even air traffic could also be driven forward.

Three outstanding applications that could revolutionize the interface between humans and electronics. We are excited to see which project will receive the award on 27.11.2024 and which developments we will soon encounter in everyday life.
