SMT technology: a big step for the smallest components

The basis of today’s SMT is surface mount technology (SMT), which was developed by IBM in the 1960s and used in the computers on the Saturn and Apollo missions.

From radio and television technology to the first home computers and today’s robots on Mars, SMT technology has been a major driver of rapid progress in electronics manufacturing.In addition to groundbreaking developments in space travel, robotics and quantum computing, SMT technology is also impacting large parts of our everyday lives – whether in the form of useful “smart home” products or the latest “digital health” programs for the healthcare system.

So it is thanks to the foresight of smart IT pioneers that the SMT is also an indispensable part of the PCB industry today.
